Individuals with autism spectrum disorders have difficulties in communication, especially in oral conversation. In addition, they have been reported to perceive auditory stimuli differently: they are hypersensitive to sounds but hyposensitive to speech. In this talk, I will describe how we use psychophysics, neuroimaging, and magnetic resonance spectroscopy to investigate how their brains organize acoustic signals, form auditory object, and process speech.
